Wedding DJ Gear #3 - Cables

There are a number of things every wedding DJ must have, like microphones and turntables. But on a more basic level, you've got to have good quality cables. Cables transfer the power to your speakers and the audio signals from your equipment so it's important to have high quality, top of the line cables.

Of course, having cables isn't enough. You've got to know how to use them. Which cables to use for which speakers and which ones you can chain and which ones you shouldn't. And of course, you need to have extras (every good dj will have backups of all equipment, including cables).

Sharon Osbourne Expecting Wedding for Kelly

You read that right! The bumbling bad boy's wife, Sharon Osbourne, is expecting that her daughter, Kelly Osbourne will be getting married soon. Not long after Kelly publicly confessed her love for beau Matthew Mosshart, Sharon said:

"She's so happy she could get married tomorrow!" Sharon told Heat magazine. "Nothing surprises me with my daughter, she's not predictable. She's never been happier - you can always tell by her eyes. She's got really shiny eyes at the moment, so she's happy."

One thing's certain, whatever wedding DJ they hire to DJ that wedding is going to have some pressure on them, considering they're performing in front of professional and famous musicians and probably dozens more as guests of the wedding.

DJ Humor: Microphone Check

As DJs, microphone checks (and sound checks) are just another part of the job. We all do it differently, but everybody seems to have a go-to, dj or not, when doing a sound check, and the following graphic about one of December's most popular dates (12/12/12) spells it out for ya.

And it's pretty funny:

Why You NEED a Professional Wedding DJ

Everybody makes mistakes, but come on, it's your wedding day. A good DJ is going to be prepared with backup equipment, much, much more music than necessary, and has prepared for the day to make sure everything is going to run smoothly. And if an issue does come up, a professional will be prepared to handle the situation in a split second.

I've heard many stories of horrible DJs who have played the same song twice, played the unedited version of a vulgar song when all the music is supposed to be clean, played the wrong song for a father/daughter dance, or had their laptop crash with no other way to finish the wedding. These types of mistakes are inexcusable and should be considered when choosing a DJ to perform your wedding.

Here's just one example of why you get what you pay for:

So, please consider hiring a DJ with a proven track record, that is professional and don't sell yourself short by going the cheap route.

Wedding DJ Gear #2 - Microphone

As a wedding dj you're most often also performing emcee duties including making announcements, introducing the bridal party, and coordinating other parts of the night like the cake cutting and other traditions. In order to do this you'll need a good, confident voice, and most importantly, a microphone.

Since the dj needs to get a message across in the midst of 140 guests who're all talking, a good microphone is essential. Of course the speakers matter and even the cables you use, but the microphone is what picks up the sound and therefore is of utmost importance.

Wedding DJ Gear #1 - Turntable

Today we're starting a new series of blog posts in which we'll feature one piece of gear a wedding dj needs to do their job. Today's photo is the turntable. Though traditional turntables are not required to be a DJ (there are CD players, controllers, software, etc.) they are the most recognized.

Every good DJ has certain tools they work with to bring the fun, mixing, and entertainment to their audience, and for most DJ's, the turntable is the most important.

How to Do the Casper Slide (Cha Cha Slide)

The Cha Cha slide, or the "new" electric slide as I've heard it referred to as before, is a staple at most weddings these days, so chances are your wedding dj has the song and chances are even greater that the bride and groom have asked the DJ to play the song at some point through the night. Of course, even if that's not the case, there will be at least a couple guests that will request it.

Much like the Cupid Shuffle, the Cha Cha Slide is a group dance that all weddings guests can participate in. Below is a video with instructions on how to perform the steps of this dance, but if you're looking for even more instruction, there are many instructional videos available.

Pauly D to DJ JWOWW's Las Vegas Wedding

It's not really a surprise that JWOWW, of Jersey Shore fame, would call on Pauly D to dj her wedding to beau Roger. The two spent many seasons at the Jersey Shore filming for their TV show of the same name, and since Pauly D is a nationally recognized DJ, who better to perform for their wedding?

We wish Jenni and Roger the best and if for some reason, Pauly D doesn't DJ for some reason, we know a few people who could pull through for ya.

Check out what the rest of the Jersey Shore guys have to say about Jenni's wedding:

Wedding Brawl at Philadelphia Hotel

As a wedding dj that djs over 40 weddings every year, you tend to see it all. The one thing I've never seen however, and I'm glad I haven't, is a fight. Sure occasionally people drink too much and start getting nutty, but it's usually pretty innocent.

This was not the case at the Sheraton Society Hill Hotel in Philadelphia where an all out brawl broke out resulting in one person dead and three arrested. What the? Seriously, what happened that lead to a death at a wedding? So sad. Apparently, two wedding parties got involved and the actual brawl involved somewhere between 70 and 100 people.

You can read the whole story over at the Huffington Post. Crazy!

Pauly D to DJ Britney Spears' Wedding?

With Pauly D ranked #7 among highest paid DJs, who in the world could afford to have him to DJ a wedding?

Celebrities, that's who. And although he offered his services as a gift to Britney Spears, she and husband-to-be Jason Trawick might just be turning him down. It's nothing against Pauly D, or his wedding dj skills, it's just that the last couple whose wedding he DJed as a gift ended in divorce less than 75 days later.

That's just bad news. However, that does mean there's room for you to DJ Britney's wedding, and that, is good news.

How to do the Cupid Shuffle

If you've ever been to a wedding, chances are you've heard of the cupid shuffle. It's a group dance (or line dance) that's a lot like the electric slide, but newer, and more modern. Some DJs are probably tired of hearing it since it's requested at almost every wedding or event, but it does bring people out to the dance floor and they love it.

So, if you've yet to learn how to do the cupid shuffle, here's a video from Cupid himself breaking down the steps:

Cupid Performs The Cupid Shuffle

If you've been to a wedding recently, chances are you've heard the cupid shuffle or cha cha slide. As wedding DJs we get asked to play those songs at every wedding without fail and it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Wedding DJs (and anyone else familiar with the song) were treated to a familiar surprise on The Voice when Cupid himself performed his song, The Cupid Shuffle, not as an act but as a contestant in order to show the world that he was more than just that guy on that song you hear at weddings.

Here's the video of his audition for The Voice:

David Guetta and Wife Renew Wedding Vows

Well even though David Guetta is not a DJ, the news of his wife and his wedding vow renewal still made it on Wedding DJ Source. The producer and recording engineer celebrated 20 years of marriage with his wife Cathy on August 28th in a renewal ceremony in Ibiza.

David and Cathy's two children and their parents attended the small ceremony which was help in their "favorite place to be." A black tux and a knee-length white wedding dress was the attire of choice for the couple to which we say - Congrats!!

I just wanna know who they chose as their wedding DJ.

Newest Wedding Craze: Craft Beers

We love to DJ weddings and we love beer, especially small brewery craft beers. So what could be better than DJing a wedding where they serve home brewed and craft beers? Nada! Nothing!

The idea of serving craft beers has caught on as couples are opting for small breweries and sometimes their own home brewed beers instead of the big brand beers like Miller lite, Coors, Budweiser, etc. Oh don't get me wrong, we're not complaining. It's a great idea. And for those DJs who are able to have a drink while they perform, a welcome change from the norm.

So, what do you think? Would you serve craft or home-brewed beers at your wedding? Let us know in the comments section below.

Zach Galifianakis Tricks Media with Fake Wedding Invitation

Most couples don't have a problem with paparazzi at their weddings, but when you're a famous comedian who's acted in a number of hit movies, you tend to worry about those things. For Zach Galifianakis, pulling a switcheroo on the paparazzi was the perfect plan.

The funny man from movies like The Hangover and The Campaign sent out a fake wedding invitation with false information to create a diversion. Meanwhile, getting married in secret to longtime girlfriend, Quinn Lundberg in a ceremony in Canada.

Good one, Zach! I wonder who he hired to DJ his wedding!?

Wedding DJ Humor: Black Eyed Peas

The Onion is pretty damn funny (as we all know). This time they've pointed their wit guns at wedding DJs and, I'll admit, it's pretty funny.

Unfortunately, too many bad and cheesy wedding DJs have given our industry a less than stellar reputation in some people's eyes, suggesting all we do is put on our radio announcer voices and push play on a playlist. All real DJs will know that is far from the truth.

Nonetheless, the stigma persists and as such, The Onion picks on the wedding DJs that do suck and pins a Black Eyed Peas joke on them. Pretty damn funny.

Wedding Day Ruined by Guest With Ferocious Dog

It's not every day you see a story like this. In fact, most weddings go off perfectly without a single setback. However, for one Colorado couple, this was not the case.

The short story goes like this. Guest with mental illness is upset at the DJ for some reason. Guest leaves wedding and returns with ferocious dog. Guest orders dog to attack. Dog attacks the bride and ends up injuring the bride, groom, and groom's brother-in-law. Read the full story.

Crazy, I know. As wedding DJs, we see a lot of stuff but never as vicious and just sad as this story. Our prayers go out to the newlyweds and their families.

Taylor Swift Crashes Kennedy Wedding

So the story goes like this, the wedding DJ wouldn't play any of Taylor Swift's songs at the wedding so Taylor just decided to show up and confront him.

Ok, so maybe that's not true, but it would be cool. What really happened is Taylor Swift and new beau Connor Kennedy showed up to a wedding Connor didn't RSVP to and Taylor wasn't invited to. Maybe they were watching Wedding Crashers and got inspired, or maybe they were just bored. Either way, their presence was not welcomed and that was made known by a particular family member.

Check out the full story.

Skrillex to be Kanye's Wedding DJ?

While it might seem a far stretch, Skrillex may end up performing as Kanye's wedding DJ. Of course it hasn't been confirmed, but considering he and Kim Kardashian are getting ever close and the fact that Kanye and Skrillex have been working on music together does suggest the possibility.

My question is this - if Skrillex does DJ Kanye West's wedding, who's gonna do all the emcee duties? Is Skrillex going to announce the bridal party and facilitate the bouquet toss? Who knows. I guess we'll wait and see if this thing pans out.
